In times of need we seek your counsel
A hub of solitude, you take us in.
Your presence we feel at sunset
Your wrath, we feel from within.
The light has no secret
Its power is laid bare for all to see.
We promise to feed its ego
But these promises we cannot keep.
There is no such beauty as you
You are hollow, deep, and insightful.
From you we all begin
And yet we cower at the sight of you.
Who was it that demanded your head?
Who was it that hurt you?
Do they not feel your warmth as we do?
Are they not protected when they lay their heads?
Predators exploit you for cover
Yet, you are a mystery.
Even when we return to the dust
You alone will remain, our history.
